Cornhill Squash Club Winter League Periods 5 and 6

Dear All

The fifth period of the Cornhill Winter League concluded on 26th March. Very competitive across all five divisions. Particular commiserations to Dan Day playing in Div 5 - only dropped two points in the period, yet failed to achieve promotion due to two other players dropping just one point between them - that's tough!

Congratulations to the following six players for topping their respective divisions (and not losing a game between them) and therefore winning the high highly sought-after yellow spot ball as their prize:

Div 1 - Iain Massey and Chris Ridgway tied (each player won 5 out of 5 matches, but they didn't play each other, therefore no method of separating the two).

Div 2 - Terry Cattle

Div 3 - Miles Wallis

Div 4 - Laurence Foster

Div 5 - Martin Bloomfield

We now move onto the 6th and final period of the 2022/23 Winter League that runs for the five weeks from 27th March to 30th April. Still plenty to play for as the final Winter League positions will determined by the total number of points accumulated since the start of the competition last October (with the usual multiplier effect in Divs 1 and 2).

After the Winter League has been completed, we will take a week off (w/c 1st May), before we start the Summer League that will run for 20 weeks from Monday 8th May until Sunday 24th September 2023. This League will operate in the usual popular format - Round Robin, everyone playing off a handicap, first to 21 in each set and two periods of 10 weeks each. All entrants can play as many or as few games as they wish. Another reminder will be circulated over the next few weeks, but please let me know before Friday 5th May if you wish to play in the Summer League by just responding to this email or sending me a WhatsApp message.

Knockout Competitions Update

In the Plate Competition, we have the four semi-finalists as follows:

Raj Khepar vs Scott Cullen and Jamie Johnstone vs Malcolm Alphonso

In the Knockout Trophy, the situation for the semi-finals is as follows:

Hamer Francis vs Iain Massey and David Millard vs the winner of the quarter final between James Fenton and Chris Ridgway (to be played on Tuesday 28th March).

All four semi-finals need to be played by 23rd April. The two Cup Finals are scheduled to be played on Wednesday 17th May, subject to the availability of the four finalists.

Racketball Update

To date, we have nine members who have entered the inaugural Cornhill Racketball League to start on Saturday 1st April. Please let me know if you wish to enter by responding to this email. This competition will run every month so, if you miss April, you can enter at a later date.

Cornhill Squash Club AGM

The AGM will be held at the Club on Wednesday 17th May 2023, commencing at 7pm, hopefully after the completion of the two cup finals earlier in the evening. All members are invited and the Club Secretary will be issuing an agenda nearer the time.

Regards

John Carrington
