Launch of RoofAID - our campaign to repair the Cornhill Squash Club roof

To All Members of the Cornhill Squash Club

Most of you will be aware that the Club roof leaks during periods of heavy rain and this situation is deteriorating. The roof glazing is very old and is coming to the end of its life. Please see the various photographs of the roof, the glazing and the court below

The Squash Club Committee has had several companies along to Cornhill to consider possible solutions, which will cost us in the order of £30,000. Rather than wait for a total catastrophic failure, it is our intention to immediately start various fundraising activities and grant applications to raise this money. We intend to do this under the campaign name of "RoofAID".

We acknowledge that £30,000 is a large amount of money but we believe that between us all we can reach this target, even if it takes a long time to get there.

We’ve already managed to secure a grant from the Mick George Foundation for £1,500 and continue to look for other sources of funds, ideally in the form of grants with no-strings attached. We are also keen to explore any offers of corporate support, so please approach your employers if you think they may be able to assist.

One of our early initiatives will be to encourage the membership to buy a Cornhill Squash playing shirt(s) and/or a hoodie. If you don’t currently have one or need another one - now is great time to get one ordered - a separate note will be coming out very shortly. All profits from shirt and hoodie sales will go directly to RoofAID.

In addition, the racket restringing service offered by David Millard will contribute towards RoofAID.

We are also keen to know if any of our members work for Barclays Bank, who offer match funding to employees raising money for good causes. If so, please get in touch by responding to this communication.

We welcome all fundraising initiatives and ideas from our members so please feel free to contact us if you can help. Again, please just respond to this note.

We do hope that all Cornhill members will get involved in RoofAID in some way, shape or form. Every little will help.

Thank You

The Cornhill Squash Club Committee
