Squash Winter League 5th Period Results and 6th Period Fixtures

Dear All

A very competitive 5th period of the Squash Winter League. 80% of all available matches were played which is the highest percentage this season - interestingly no single division played all of their matches, although Div 4 came within one match of a full house.

Separating out the winners and losers in most of the divisions has tested my maths and my knowledge of the rules:

  • Three players in Div 2 finished on 14 points
  • Two players in Div 3 finished on 17 points and two on 9 points
  • Two players in Div 4 finished on 16 points
  • Three players in Div 5 finished on 15 points
  • Two players in Div 6 finished on 11 points

See all the stats below.

Congratulations to the following six players for winning their respective divisions:

Div 1 - Iain Massey

Div 2 - James Fenton

Div 3 - David Millard

Div 4 - Simon Wallis

Div 5 - John Dobbins

Div 6 - Peter Felix

A new ball is the prize for each of you.

We now move into the 6th and final period of the 2023-24 Winter League that begins on Monday 25th March and finishes on Sunday 28th April. We have 41 players in this final period - Matt Orton drops out through injury but Graham Heeley returns from his European jaunt.

The cumulative points scored after the first five periods are shown below. Please remember that your starting point for the first period of the 2024-25 Winter League is determined by your finishing position in the overall 2023-24 Winter League once the 6th period has been completed. For example, the first 7 players in the cumulative league will form Div 1 of the 2024-25 Winter League, with the next 7 players forming Div 2 and so on. This means that all points are precious over the next five weeks, so please try to play all your matches. Don't forget that we have Easter during the 6th period so some of your opponents might be away on holiday at some point - I recommend you book early to avoid disappointment!

Squash Summer League Advanced Warning

The 2024 Summer League will commence on Monday 6th May (one week's breather after the Winter League finishes) and will run for 20 weeks until Sunday 22nd September. We will issue a separate note in the next week or so that will provide details of the format and the date by which you need to enter. Please keep an eye out for the communication.

Defib Update

We have now taken delivery of the defibrillator and this will be installed outside the club in the next few days. We will advise you when it is operational and provide you with details of training sessions should you wish to get involved. We are still short of our target for donations for this equipment, so please consider contributing to the defib fund if you are able to (Cornhill Squash Club sort code 09-01-54, account 43371806, reference "defib"). For those members who have already donated, the Squash Club Committee is extremely grateful.

As ever, if you have any suggestions as to how we could potentially improve any element of the Squash Club, please feel free to contact a member of the Committee - there are no boundaries in this respect.

Enjoy Your Squash!

John Carrington
