Cornhill Squash Club's Defibrillator Now Installed

To All Members

We are pleased to inform you that a defibrillator was installed on the external front wall of the Cornhill Squash Club yesterday. It is now fully operational and linked to the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

The unit is a Mindray C1A Fully Automatic Defibrillator stored inside an external heated cabinet with a keypad lock. The door lock code is C159X and this code can be found on the inside of the window in the downstairs lobby but you might also want to store it on your mobile phone. We do not intend to change this code at any stage unless security issues cause us to review this decision at some point in the future.

The defib cabinet contains electrode pads, scissors, a safety razor, disposable gloves, wipes, an LED light and a useful crib sheet. For obvious reasons, it is important that the cabinet is not opened unless there is a genuine emergency or for the annual maintenance checks.

The London Hearts Charity has supplied us with this AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and the Charity has also sent us a 10-minute generic video that is well worth watching (just copy and paste the mp4 info below into your browser). Towards the end of the video, there is a Q&A that appears to cover all of the key points should you ever need to use the defib unit. Additionally, we will be arranging some on-site training at Cornhill that will also include CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). We will advise you of the training dates once we have the final details.

In an ideal world, we hope that the defibrillator will never be required, but it is important that we have the knowledge and capability to react promptly in the event that someone at Cornhill suffers a heart attack or cardiac arrest.

The defibrillator is available for the use of anyone in or around Cornhill. We will be sharing the access code with the local residents, a number of whom have kindly contributed to the costs of the unit and its installation.

Our sincere thanks to those members of the Squash Club who have also donated to this project. Your support is much appreciated.

Should anyone else feel inclined to donate to this vital cause, please just simply send a donation of your £ choosing to the Cornhill Squash Club’s bank account (Santander, sort code 09-01-54, a/c 43371806) using the reference “Defib”.
