Squash Summer League 2024 Period 1 Details

Dear All

Thank you to the 41 members who have entered the first period of the 2024 Cornhill Squash Club Summer League. This is an extraordinary number of entrants and the highest ever in the 20 years that we have been running this competition.

To accommodate the large number of players, we have tweaked the format and used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help us sort out the randomly selected groups that you will see below for the first 5-week period that begins on Bank Holiday Monday, 6th May 2024.

There's quite a bit of information below that is worthwhile reading. Additionally, the playing rules for this competition are now available to you on MYCOURTS. If anything is unclear, please don't hesitate to respond to this communication and I will try to answer your query.

12 of the 41 entrants to the Summer League have never previously played in this competition, but this format will give you a great opportunity to meet and play against other members who you have perhaps not come across in your time at Cornhill. The handicaps will hopefully level the playing field to enable everyone to play some really competitive matches over the next 20 weeks.

It is acknowledged that, for some, the idea of playing c.2 games a week right through the summer months might be a bit of a challenge. Just try your best and play as many matches as you can - try and organise your games early in each period, rather than leaving it to the last week or so.

There is a section in the red file on the windowsill in the club lobby that is full of Summer League info if you need any reminders before your games. This includes confirmation of your handicaps.

If any other members would like to enter this competition in Period 2, starting on 10th June, just let me know during the next five weeks.

Best of luck to everyone involved. You are able to start booking your matches on MYCOURTS from this point onwards.

Regards

John Carrington
