Squash Summer League P1 Results and P2 Groups

Dear All

A great start to the Cornhill Squash Summer League. 42 players entered, although 4 weren't able to play any games due to injury, illness or work commitments.

A total of 106 league matches played in the first 5 weeks, which is more than 50% of the entire Summer League of 2023.

There were two drawn matches (shown as 3-3 in MYCOURTS) and three walk-overs (shown as 3-0 in MYCOURTS). If you are unfamiliar with the "walk-over" rule, please see the details in MYCOURTS in the Summer League section.

Congratulations to the 4 Group Winners in Period 1:

Group 1 - Jamie Johnstone (32 points)

Group 2 - Simon Langley (28 points)

Group 3 - David Robinson (29 points)

Group 4 - Malcolm Alphonso (32 points)

A new squash ball awaits each of you as your prize for topping the group.

In the overall Summer Squash League after the first 5-week period, Jamie Johnstone and Malcolm Alphonso are the joint leaders, with David Robinson and James Fenton just 3 points behind.

The full Summer League positions are shown in the table below.

For Period 2, from June 10th to July 14th, we have 43 players involved. Mark Couling and Martin Bloomfield drop out due to injury but new members Graham Wallis and James Bagshaw join the league in addition to Neil Throssell who returns to competitive squash following injury.

We've been back in touch with ChatGPT and the App has randomly selected another 4 groups for P2. There are 3 groups of 11 players and one group of 10. You will find a mixture of players you faced in P1 with some new opponents in each group.

The 4 groups are shown in handicap order in the table below. A reminder that your handicap remains unaltered for the entirety of the 20-week Summer League. These groups are now available for you to see in MYCOURTS.

I know that some of you found it difficult to get started in P1 but, hopefully, you've got the hang of things and you can start booking league matches a little earlier in the period. Just be realistic when trying to book your matches as we have a diverse cross-section of players, some of whom have real challenges with their personal diaries and other commitments.

Copies of the two documents above will be held in the red file on the lobby windowsill at the Club.

As we move into the summer holiday months, please try your best to keep the other members of your group appraised of your availability, if you're not around for the full 5 weeks.

Best of luck to all of you - still all to play for!

Regards

John Carrington
