Cornhill Squash Club reopening

Dear Club Member

In line with Government and England Squash guidelines relating to the CoVid19 pandemic, the Cornhill Squash Club Committee have decided to reopen the Club for play, but only to those members who are prepared to accept the risks and obligations outlined below. Currently, it is not possible for any member to book a court.

If you wish to re-use the Club, we therefore require you to confirm by email to that you have read the obligations below, accept them and acknowledge the risk of visiting, particularly given we cannot guarantee that all other visitors will have adhered to the obligations. On receipt of your acceptance email, we will ensure that you are given access to the Court booking system.

The Committee have reviewed England Squash guidelines on re-opening and have followed all steps that are practical for our Club. However, because the court is not supervised, the Committee cannot implement all the recommendations. Therefore, we are reliant on members to take on board the risk of visiting and to confirm that they will abide by the obligations detailed below. The Club cannot be held responsible in case of any infection that may have been caught while you use the club.

Key steps that the Club have implemented are:
• A risk assessment has been undertaken
• Only every other court can now be booked, to allow for:
• Some ventilation of the court between games
• Players to arrive and leave without bumping into the players from the previous or next court booking
• Signs, hand sanitisers and sanitising wipes have been installed
• All common touch points have been sanitised
• Member obligations have been communicated (this note)
• The risks to members has been communicated (this note)

RISK: as per England Squash guidelines, in an enclosed court there is the risk of the CoVid19 virus remaining airborne. Therefore, even with a 40 minute gap between games, there is some residual risk associated with a visit to the club. The Committee want all members to acknowledge and consider this risk before they decide to visit the club.

Obligations for all visitors to Cornhill Squash Club until further notice
• If you feel unwell or that you might have any COVID-19 symptoms (the most common ones are a recent onset of a new continuous cough or high temperature or a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell) then you must not visit the club. You should not leave your house for at least 7 days from when your symptoms started (if you live alone), or 14 days (if you live with someone who has symptoms).
• If you have visited the court in last 14 days and then feel unwell or develop COVID symptoms, as well as notifying any national or local ‘track and trace’ bodies, please notify the club immediately (with details of when you played, the name of any playing partner or other persons you encountered on your visit) by calling or texting one of:
• Chris Ridgway 07 881 916 887
• Simon Heath 07 525 217 624
• Terry Cattle 07 889 843 708
• If you have had any contact with someone who has had suspected or confirmed CoVid-19 in the last 2 weeks, then you must self-isolate for 14 days and not visit the court during this period
• Any member / player who has recovered from a CoVid-19 infection which required hospitalisation must consult their GP before returning to play
• Given that the club is only cleaned on a weekly basis and that the Club cannot guarantee previous visitors have sanitised common touch points, members should sanitise their hands if they touch any of the common touch points including:
• Front door handles
• Court door push points (external side) and handle (inside)
• Stairs
• Toilet door handle, flush and taps
• Light meter
• Light switch
• Visitor log pen
• First aid kit
• On departure, members must use a sanitising wipe to sanitise all touch points they may have used, including those listed above.
• Sanitising wipes have been made available in the lobby and on the balcony and should be disposed of in the bin, the lid of which must be left off.
• You are only allowed to play squash either solo or with members of your household or CoVid ‘bubble’
• It is possible to play “sides” with someone outside your household or bubble provided that you adhere to the England Squash guidance (see page 17 of the attached PDF for details); this version of the game allows it to be played without physical proximity to your opponent. In which event:
• only one player should touch the ball
• social distancing must be maintained
• The changing rooms will be taped off and must not be used
• You must arrive dressed to play no earlier than 5 minutes before your session start time and leave straight after your game finishes and you have sanitised the common touch points.
• You should avoid touching the court walls at all and certainly not use the wall to wipe off sweat. To reduce sweat droplets, bring a towel onto court to wipe off and / or adopt the use of sweatbands and regularly change playing kit. Eye protection is strongly recommended
• Do not share any equipment, including racquets, water bottles, towels. All personal ‘waste’ (empty water bottles, wrappers etc, is to be taken home.
• There must only be two players per court.
• Each player to have own designated area at the front of the court to store kit/personal belongings.
• It is not allowed to bring a visitor to the Club until further notice. If you wish to play with someone from your household or bubble, then these should be registered as members so that they can be added to the MyCourts booking system
• No play is allowed without prior booking
• Note that face coverings and masks are not recommended to be worn
• In the case of an essential non-member visitor, e.g. for maintenance, their contact details must be manually recorded on the register which will be located in the lobby of the club.
