Cornhill Squash Club Return to Play

To All Members of Cornhill Squash Club

Dear All

We are delighted to advise you that England Squash, in consultation with Government, has announced that, with effect of Monday 17th May 2021, all squash clubs in England are able to return to full competitive squash without restrictions in format (see extract from the England Squash website below).

Over the past few months, during the latest lockdown, the Cornhill Squash Club Committee has been working behind the scenes to ensure that the club's facilities and health and safety documentation have been properly maintained to ensure that the membership was able to return to playing squash immediately that the green light was received from England Squash.

Obviously, there still needs to be great care taken by the membership to ensure that any COVID risks are minimised as the club reopens and we start to enjoy playing squash again after such a long period of absence. There is a NHS QR code in the window adjacent to the front door of the club - it would be helpful if all members and visitors would scan this to assist with the Track and Trace process.

The Committee has agreed to support two playing formats over the coming weeks:

  1. Friendly games involving members and occasional visitors (note point 3 of the Members' Rules: " You are entitled to bring playing guests to the club up to 6 times per year. A playing guest additional fee of £2 is payable per playing guest per visit" ). Effective Monday 17th May.
  2. A round robin Summer League played under the usual Summer League format (handicaps, American scoring etc). This league is free to enter and will commence on Monday 24th May. If you wish to enter, please email johnrcarrington@hotmail.com or text 07598 404958 by 5pm on Saturday 22nd May. Handicaps will be carried over from the most recent pre-COVID competitions with new members being awarded our "best estimate" handicap during the first period of this league. The duration of the Summer League periods (at least two) will be determined once we understand the number of entrants.

It is important that all members read the updated COVID Risk Assessment (copy attached and displayed at the club). It is expected that all members and visitors apply all COVID protocols and dispose of any rubbish safely. All games must be pre-booked and paid for on MyCourts - there must be no ad hoc "free" games played at any time. There are now no court time restrictions on MyCourts so book any free court as you wish.

The changing rooms and showers will reopen from 17th May. It is the individual choice of each player to decide if they wish to use these facilities.

Please note that, as previously communicated, the Cornhill Squash Club AGM is to be held at the club on Wednesday 26th May, starting at 7pm. This will be an outdoor event, so please check the weather forecast! It is important to have as many members as possible at this meeting.

We will continue to update the Cornhill membership of any changes to the directives issued by England Squash if and when circumstances dictate.

Enjoy your squash!

Regards

John Carrington
