Squash Results and Next Fixtures

Dear All

Firstly, an important point concerning the club’s finances. Unfortunately, again, someone has been tampering with the heating controls in the viewing gallery, resulting in the court heating being on all day instead of only in the pre-set times. The net effect is that we are spending three times the amount on electricity than we should be. Please note that the heating control timings must not be altered for any reason. If you happen to be playing in off-peak times when the court may be a little colder, please just press the “Boost” button once.

Despite the challenging weather conditions over the past week, the vast majority of Winter League games have been played, with the exception of division 5, where there has been no play. Divs 2 and 3 played 100% of all scheduled matches.

Congratulations to the following four players on winning their respective divisions:

Div 1 - David Millard
Div 2 - Callum Millard
Div 3 - Tim Freed
Div 4 - Don Draper

The four divisional winners achieved a rare feat by all of them winning 100% of their league games that were played, with a cumulative score of 72 points in the period. A new ball awaits each of them when our paths next cross.

There are a number of personnel changes in the 5th period ending on 27th March. James Fenton is back after injury and we welcome another new member in Dan Day. Unfortunately, Martin Lamb and Kevin Dupont are now out of the Winter League due to long term injuries and we have also lost Ian Hicks, John Baldock and Tom O’Byrne due to work pressures and other circumstances.

Therefore, the 5th period reduces to four divisions, although divs 2, 3 and 4 have seven players in each. By increasing the numbers in these divisions in the short term, it means that no-one has been unexpectedly relegated in the 4th period. However, please be aware that it is likely that around 3 players will be relegated from these three divisions at the end of the period in order to reintroduce division 5.

The 5th period of the Winter League is now live on MyCourts. Please try to book your fair share of games.

In the Knockout Trophy, we now know the names of two of the four semi-finalists (Jamie Johnstone and Callum Millard). In the Plate Competition, we have seven of the eight quarter finalists. Please note that both finals are due to be played on the evening of Wednesday 18th May, prior to the AGM at the club.

Enjoy your squash!

Regards
John Carrington
